Discussing the Hermetic Principles
A column by Frederick Sinclair
Planet earth hosts trillions of life forms from the micro to the macro. There is 50 trillion cells in a human alone, entertaining symbionic relationships with billions of bacterium; sustaining miraculous science, biology, chemistry, engineering, and sentient functions. The life in and of the soil, air, water, flora, and fauna of nature is of such intricate interrelated function that it defies any description other than miraculous. Debate continues over development of life forms on earth having been a result of a physically ascending evolution, driven by chance and Survival of the Fittest with Natural Selection occurring over billions of years, or, a divine Spirit, condensing into Soul on spiritual, mental, and physical planes of existence. A life sourced by infinite consciousness descending from the divine into creation. The latter exhibiting the Divine Law of Cooperation with seven Hermetic Principles pervading nature and fostering a pendulum like transcendence from the finite to infinite, from self to society, from indulgence to love. A reasonable conclusion is that both of these reflections of life are indicative of the endless possibilities that exist under Creation.
Much is taught and learned about Darwin’s Origin of The Species and the contemporary theory of evolution, but many thousands of years earlier, in pre-Egyptian times, Hermetic Principles were revealed only to initiates, such as Abraham. Hermes, the high priest of civilization, revealed: “ The principles of Truth are seven; he who knows these, understandingly, possesses the Magic Key before whose touch all the doors of the Temple fly open.” – The Kybalion. The Hermetic Philosophy was openly revealed to all of humanity in 1908 and provides a modern day ‘key’ to understanding the deeper structure of the ‘Temple’ of creation. The Hermetic Principles are:
- Mentalism: “ The ALL Is Mind The Universe is Mental.” ALL is undefinable Spirit, a universal infinite living mind.
- Correspondence: “As above, so below, as below so above.” Enables man to reason intelligently from the known to the unknown.
- Vibration: “Nothing rests; everything moves; everything vibrates.”
- Polarity: Everything is Dual; everything has poles; everything has its pair of opposites.”
- Rhythm: “Everything flows out and in; everything has its tides;…rhythm compensates.”
- Cause and Effect: “Every Cause has its Effect;…. chance is but a name for Law.”
- Gender: “Gender is in everything; everything has its Masculine and Feminine Principles; Gender manifests on all planes.” always in the direction of generation, regeneration, creation.
The complete KYBALION by Three Initiates is available at most book sources and online. I highly recommend it to all as it is non denominational and its influence can be seen in every religion known to man. It provides a key to unlocking the mysteries, lessons and solutions for mankind, contained within Creation.
