Get your NYS Boater’s Safety Certificate FREE! Steuben County Sheriff’s Office offers a 2-day course starting July 30th.
The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office Navigation Division will host a two-day New York State Boater’s Safety Course on Tuesday, July 30th, and Wednesday, July 31st-2024. The class will be held from 6:00pm to 10pm at the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, 7007 Rumsey Street, Ext., Bath, NY 14810. You must be at least 10 years old to attend and must pass a written test at the end of the session.
Starting in 2025, all persons will be required to pass an approved course in boater education in order to operate a motorboat in New York State. All operators of personal watercraft (jet skis/wave runners) must possess the boater safety certificate and be at least 14 years old.
Seating for the class is limited and pre-registration is required. There is no charge for the course. New York State charges a fee of $10 for the boater’s certificate which does not expire. The fee is waived for students less than 18 years old.
