Over two years ago, a small news team from Allegany County, NY launched an effort counter the rapid loss of local news sources. Newspapers had become shadows of themselves and the online news space had become a tangled web of annoying advertisments, paywalled content, and disinformation. Local businesses had lost a means to advertise, local governments were not being covered, and local youth were not being featured. We had to try and change that.

The Wellsville Sun has been very successful, so much that we decided to partner with Hornell friends and start providing the same service to Steuben County. The Hornell Sun has been steadily growing into a trusted local news source with lots of school sports, government, law enforcement, and community news. This effort has brought us closer to communities like Hammondsport, Penn Yann, and businesses in the western Finger Lakes. Just like our hometown of Wellsville, just like Hornell NY, the strong demand for local news is why we are introducing the Keuka Sun.

Let us be very honest from the beginning; we are a very small crew and we love the Finger Lakes. In fact, one of our trusted partners is Mystic Media Dot Com from Hornell NY and the owners are possibly the biggest Finger Lakes fans on the planet!  Jim Moore started “Life in the Finger Lakes” on the Hornell Sun, a regular segment that features the many FLX destinations that Jim and Kathy visit.  The Moores love traveling on day trips to the Finger Lakes region and are always looking for new places to visit.

We chose to expand our local news network into the Finger Lakes region because there is so much going on; from the many great local events to the small businesses with amazing stories to tell. Speaking for, well almost everyone on the planet, life in the Finger Lakes is rich, interesting, and always changing.

This site offers opportunity for readers, writers, artists, history buffs, local athletics, and businesses. We strongly encourage reader interaction and participation!! Whether it is a great picture of the lakes, an opinion piece on policy, or a “news tip,” we want to hear from you.

So send us your stories!!

100th birthday, boat christenings, obituaries, birth announcements, and student achievements.

Editorials are encouraged from those who are so motivated to be published, this platform is open to all perspectives and interests. The power of the “op-ed” is something we do not take for granted.

Local news is defined by community input and participation, so please consider becoming part of the effort. Tell your local school about us, we love promoting school sports and student achievements! Tell you local government that we are eager to share the time, place, and agenda of public meetings. Tell your local history lover that we’d be thrilled to do regular historical features!!

Local businesses, especially those that rely on tourism: The Keuka Sun comes with a large following via “sister” websites that offer a great advertising opportunity. The people of Allegany and Steuben counties are visiting our sites, reading our news, and in growing numbers. We are proud to report our existing sites attract hundreds of thousands of readers each week, many are Finger Lakes lovers just like you and I. Many of our friends, family, and local artists like musicians Bob Wapole and Dee Specker(“Bob and Dee,”) and “The Mystic Twangers,” have strong connections to Allegany and Steuben County. As part of the “Sun” network, interesting news and updates from Keuka will become regular news for readers all over Western New York. We all love the Finger Lakes and look forward to spreading the good news.

Our goal is to create a network of local news: You will read NY State Police reports, news from elected officials, obituaries, and the opinions of our readers. Are you a parent, teacher, or a coach of a local athlete or scholastic star? We want to shine a positive light on the younger generation every chance possible. They are not just future readers, but leaders.
