Drop off at the Steuben County and Yates County

Remember to bring your unwanted and unused prescription medications on Saturday, October 28th from 10am – 2pm to the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, 7007 Rumsey Street Extension, Bath, New York.

Come say hi to our deputies and our partners in the Steuben Prevention Coalition and Opioid Committee and get rid of your unwanted or unused medications!

From the Yates County Sheriff:

Yates County Sheriff Ron Spike announces a partnership again with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) to participate in the Nationwide Prescription Drug “Take-Back” Day for the collection of unused prescription drugs at “free” drop-off site Saturday, October 28, 2023 from 10AM – 2PM at the rear of Yates County Courthouse at 415 Liberty Street, in Penn Yan, NY.

We do Spring and Fall partnerships and during this initiative Sheriff’s deputies will be collecting potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs for destruction at this site, free and anonymously, no questions asked. This is a “drive-thru” type event.

“This partnership once again with DEA is important for the community in order to prevent increased pill abuse, misuse and theft, while addressing a vital public safety and health issue, and preventing the environmental issue of flushing drugs down the toilet” said Sheriff Spike, “We must continually use all resources to combat the misuse of narcotics and stimulants.”

Other permanent drug drop-box locations are also available from the Sheriff’s Office at the Public Safety building in Penn Yan 24X7 and M-F at the Starkey Town Hall in Dundee, NY and the Rushville NY Village offices. These daily availability locations have been used by many, and we thank all citizens for the proper disposal of meds.

“The DEA is making a nationwide effort once again and the Sheriff’s Office is glad to partner with them,” said Spike “This is a great opportunity for those who accumulated unwanted, unused prescription drugs, to safely dispose of them.”
