LCAA’S FINEST: Dansville swimming ready for sectionals

By Chris Metcalf

LCAA’S FINEST

WEBSTER – Dansville swimming coach Chris Everett and his Mustangs have been waiting all season for Nov. 2.

Dansville will be competing Thursday at the Section V Class C Swimming and Diving Championships at the Webster Aquatic Center.

Thursday’s prelims for swimming begin at 5:15 p.m.

All top-8 qualifiers will then participate in Saturday’s Class C finals back at Webster with a 3 p.m. start time.

“This is the meet we train for all season and the girls know it,” coach Everett said. “The energy is starting to build with only a few days of taper left and the girls’ focus is only on success.”

Once again, Dansville seniors Ella Frazer and Kaitlin Lee will be expected to lead the Lady Mustangs.

Frazer is the No. 2 seed in the 200 Freestyle and in the 500 Free while Lee is seeded sixth in the 100 Fly and 10th in the 100 Backstroke.

Frazer’s top time in the 200 Free is 2:10.27 and she also posted a 5:55.89 in the 500.

Frazer is the reigning LCAA champion in the 200.

Lee’s 1:17.09 is her time for the fly and 1:12.57 in the backstroke.

They will also be competing in both the 200 and 400 Freestyle Relays.

In last year’s sectionals, Frazer was second in the 500 Free and placed seventh in the 200 Free while Lee was fourth in both the 100 Fly and 100 Back.

Lee and Frazer will team up with Abigail Kendall and Haidyn Scollon in the 200 Free Relay with a season-best time of 1:53.91.

That same foursome will also compete in the 400 Free Relay with a seeding time of 4:15.03.

Kendall is also seeded third in the 200 IM while Scollon is seeded fourth in the 50 Free and seventh in the 100 Free.

Kierston Pearson has also earned a solid seed as she is ranked fifth in the 50 Free.

Other swimmers competing this week include Mollie Herrmann, Selena White-Fairbrother, Samara Wolf-Mailky and Marissa Ziefel.

Competing in the 200 Medley Relay are White-Fairbrother, Wolf-Mailky, Herrmann and Ziefel, who will also compete in the 200 Free Relay and 400 Free Relay as well.

Last Saturday, Kendall placed third at the sectional diving championships, setting a personal best in points.

“Abby started off our sectional week strong with a huge personal record, breaking the 300-point threshold, and taking a strong third behind two incredible seniors,” Dansville diving coach Heather Robin said. “She continues to work hard and preserve and all her hard work shows when she steps into the championship atmosphere.”
