“I realized the true extent of my love for Keuka Lake”

By Mary St. George,

In the heart of the Finger Lakes region lies a gem that has held my soul captive for as long as I can remember – Keuka Lake. To many, it may seem like just another body of water, but to me, it’s the essence of serenity, the embodiment of tranquility, and the keeper of my deepest sentiments.

My love affair with Keuka began in my childhood, with lazy summer days spent splashing in its cool waters and warm evenings watching the sun set over its tranquil surface. Each ripple seemed to whisper secrets of the past, tales of the Seneca people who once revered this land and the settlers who found solace in its embrace.

As I grew older, my bond with Keuka only deepened. I found solace in its silent shores during moments of heartache and joy alike. Its changing moods mirrored my own, from the calmness of a glassy morning to the wildness of a stormy night. Yet, through every ebb and flow, Keuka remained a steadfast companion, a constant presence in a world of uncertainty.

It was on one such evening, with the moon casting its silver glow upon the water, that I realized the true extent of my love for Keuka Lake. As I sat upon its rocky shore, enveloped in a blanket of stars, I felt a connection that transcended mere admiration. Keuka had become a part of me, woven into the fabric of my being like the threads of a cherished tapestry.

In that moment, I made a vow to honor and protect this sacred bond for all eternity. I pledged to preserve Keuka’s pristine beauty for future generations to marvel at, to safeguard its waters from harm, and to cherish each sunrise and sunset as if it were a precious gift.

And so, my love story with Keuka Lake continues to unfold with each passing day. Whether I’m sailing across its shimmering surface or simply gazing upon it from afar, I am reminded of the profound connection we share. For Keuka is not just a lake – it is my confidant, my muse, and the love of my life.
