Hornell Varsity Red Raiders scored seven runs in the third inning, which helped them defeat Penn Yan Academy 12-5 on Saturday. Gennaro Picco doubled, scoring one run, Sheamus Khork singled, scoring one run, Brayden Vaughn doubled, scoring one run, Aaron McInerney doubled, scoring one run, Andrew Davis drew a walk, scoring one run, and Charlie Oyer singled, scoring two runs.

Penn Yan got on the board in the top of the first inning after Reed Bouchard singled, and Penn Yan scored on a passed ball, each scoring one run.

Hornell scored on a passed ball, which helped the Red Raiders tie the game at two in the bottom of the second.

A solo home run to left field by Brady Bouchard gave Penn Yan the lead, 3-2, in the top of the third.

Davis earned the win for Hornell. The starting pitcher surrendered five hits and five runs (one earned) over seven innings, striking out 13 and walking two. Bouchard took the loss for Penn Yan. The starting pitcher went two and two-thirds innings, giving up nine runs (eight earned) on seven hits, striking out two and walking three.

Hornell piled up 11 hits in the game. Picco, Davis, Vaughn, and Oyer each collected two hits for Hornell Varsity Red Raiders. Vaughn and Oyer each drove in three runs for Hornell Varsity Red Raiders. Hornell had patience at the plate, accumulating six walks for the game. Davis and Davin Oyer led the team with two bases on balls each. Davis, Dan Barnett, and Khork each stole multiple bases for Hornell. The Red Raiders stole nine bases in the game.

Matt Tonis, Bouchard, and Bouchard each drove in one run for Penn Yan Academy. Bouchard led Penn Yan with two hits in three at bats. Penn Yan didn’t commit a single error. Bouchard made the most plays with nine.

Hornell Varsity Red Raiders will travel to Livonia for their next game today (Monday).

JV VICTORY!

Brody Flaitz drove in five runs on four hits to lead Hornell Junior Varsity Red Raiders past Penn Yan 32-4 on Saturday. Flaitz tripled in the third scoring two, singled in the third scoring two, and tripled in the second scoring one.

Hornell Junior Varsity Red Raiders came back to win despite trailing 4-0 in the first.

Penn Yan got on the board in the top of the first inning after an error scored two runs, Burd singled, scoring one run, and Bailey singled, scoring one run.

The JV Raiders tied the game in the bottom of the first thanks to a single by Marco Picco, an error, and a single by Christian Valle.

Hornell flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the second, scoring eight runs on six hits to take a 12-4 lead. The biggest blow in the inning was an inside the park home run by Picco that drove in two.

Hornell scored 15 runs on nine hits in the bottom of the third inning. Nick Gray singled, scoring one run, Tyrone Buchanan singled, scoring one run, Nash Adams hit a sacrifice fly, scoring two runs, Dennis Rudenauer doubled, scoring one run, Alfie Whiteley singled, scoring one run, Flaitz tripled, scoring two runs, an error scored two runs, Buchanan doubled, scoring one run, Rudenauer singled, scoring one run, an error scored one run, and Flaitz singled, scoring two runs.

Hornell scored five runs on three hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. Buchanan doubled, scoring one run, an error scored one run, and Whiteley hit an inside the park home run, scoring three runs.

Austin Mead earned the win for Hornell. The starting pitcher allowed four hits and four runs (zero earned) over five innings, striking out five and walking one. D’Amico took the loss for Penn Yan. They went one inning, surrendering 15 runs (eight earned) on nine hits, striking out two and walking five. Burd led things off on the hill for Penn Yan. The starting pitcher allowed nine hits and 12 runs (six earned) over two innings, striking out three and walking two.

Hornell piled up 21 hits in the game. Buchanan and Flaitz each collected four hits for Hornell. Picco, Whiteley, Gray, Ben Woolever, and Rudenauer each collected multiple hits for the Red Raiders. Hornell had patience at the plate, amassing eight walks for the game. Adams, Jordan Sylvester, and Felipe Silva led the team with two bases on balls each. Buchanan, Picco, Flaitz, Whiteley, and Valle each stole multiple bases for Hornell. Hornell ran wild on the base paths, amassing 18 stolen bases for the game.

Bailey, Burd, Geffre, and Reed each collected one hit for Penn Yan. Bailey and Burd were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in one run for Penn Yan.

Next up for Hornell Junior Varsity Red Raiders is a game at Dansville on Wednesday.
