Penn Yan Woman Airlifted Following Two-Car Crash in Seneca

Staff Report / April 25, 2026

A two-vehicle crash in Ontario County on Friday afternoon left one person seriously injured and prompted a medical helicopter response, according to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies say the crash occurred around 3:15 p.m. at the intersection of Wabash Road and Kashong Switch Road in the Town of Seneca. Emergency crews responded to reports of a collision involving entrapment.

Investigators determined that a 33-year-old Penn Yan man was traveling eastbound on Kashong Switch Road when he failed to stop at a stop sign. His vehicle collided with a southbound vehicle driven by a 32-year-old Penn Yan woman.

The woman was found unconscious at the scene with severe injuries. She was airlifted by Mercy Flight to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The male driver was also transported to Strong Memorial Hospital by ambulance with complaints of pain. Authorities say he was issued a traffic ticket for failing to stop at the stop sign.

Multiple fire departments—including Stanley, Hall, Benton, Bellona, and Gorham—assisted at the scene, along with Gorham EMS.

The roadway was temporarily closed while crews investigated and reconstructed the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.
