Boil Water Advisory Issued for Village of Rushville Residents

Staff Report / May 12, 2026

Residents in the Village of Rushville were advised over the weekend to boil tap water before use after health officials issued a boil water advisory tied to concerns about the safety of the public water supply.

According to the New York State Department of Health and village officials, the advisory was issued following a water main break that affected the municipal water system. Reports indicated the notice initially applied to the entire village, though some agencies later specified the impacted area stretched from South Main Street and Bassett Street to the village line.

Officials instructed residents to bring all tap water to a rolling boil for at least one minute before using it for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, preparing infant formula, making ice, or giving water to pets. Health officials also stated that showering, bathing, and laundry could continue during the advisory, provided residents avoided swallowing water and clothing was fully dried before use.

The advisory remained in effect while additional water quality testing was conducted to confirm the system was safe for consumption. Village officials initially estimated the notice could remain in place until Tuesday or Wednesday.

An update issued Monday afternoon confirmed the boil water advisory had been lifted as of 2:30 p.m. after testing determined the water supply met safety standards. Residents with questions were directed to contact the New York State Department of Health’s Geneva District Office.
