Donald L. “Don” Richmond, 86, Scio

Donald L. “Don” RICHMOND, 86, of Scio, NY, passed away Saturday, May 16, 2026, in Jones Memorial Hospital, Wellsville. 

Born September 9, 1939, in Andover, he was the son of Milon and Edith Paine Richmond. Don grew up in Petrolia and Wellsville. He was the valedictorian of the Allentown Union School in Allentown, class of 1957. After high school, he attended Alfred State University, where he earned an AAS degree in Mechanical Technology. On June 12, 1965, in Wellsville, he married Ruth Burton. They were happily married for 60 years. He was employed by Acme Electric, Air Preheater, and Dresser-Rand as a draftsman, mechanical engineer, project manager and contract coordinator, retiring in 2001. 

Don was a member of First Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Wellsville. He enjoyed antique automobiles, was a past member of the Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA), and the Model A Ford Club of America (MAFCA). Don restored several cars and won several national awards with his Model A. He also enjoyed auctions and flea markets. Don was injured in a snowmobile accident in 2005. Since then, he fought to maintain his remaining mobility. 

Surviving besides his wife, Ruth, are: two sons, Brian (Kathy) Richmond of Mumford and Shawn (Tiffani) Richmond of Brandon, FL; grandchildren, Alexander Richmond and Christopher Richmond; stepgrandson, Joseph (Carrie) Novak; three siblings, Marilyn Herke of Lima, Ralph (Cassie) Richmond of Central Square, and Carol (Elwyn) Wooster of Orland, ME; several brothers-in-law; nieces and nephews. Don was predeceased by his parents. 

A graveside service will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 11, 2026 in Stannards Cemetery, Stannards, NY. 

Arrangements are under the direction of Olney-Foust & Embser Funeral Homes & Cremation, 34 West State Street, Wellsville, NY.
