Two Drivers Airlifted Following Head-On Crash Near Penn Yan

Staff Report / May 23, 2026

Two motorists were flown to Strong Memorial Hospital after a serious head-on collision on State Route 14A in Yates County on Thursday, according to the Yates County Sheriff’s Office. The crash occurred shortly before noon in the Town of Benton, just north of the Village of Penn Yan.

Investigators said a vehicle driven by 63-year-old David M. Locascio of Liberty was traveling north on Route 14A when it crossed into the southbound lane and collided with a vehicle operated by 83-year-old Diane M. Robinson of Victor. Following the initial impact, Locascio’s vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree. Firefighters from the Penn Yan Fire Department were required to extricate him from the wreckage.

Authorities said both drivers sustained injuries that were not considered life-threatening. Locascio suffered chest pain along with facial and head injuries, while Robinson complained of chest pain. Both were airlifted by LifeNet helicopters to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester for treatment.

The Yates County Accident Investigation Unit responded to assist with the investigation. Route 14A was closed for approximately four hours while emergency crews worked at the scene and investigators documented evidence. Officials said charges are pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation.

Multiple agencies assisted at the scene, including the Penn Yan Police Department, Penn Yan Ambulance, Benton Fire Department, Yates County Ambulance, Yates County Emergency Management, and LifeNet air medical crews.
