Finger Lakes SPCA Awarded major NY State Grant

Over $400,000 will allow for major upgrades, a “catio,” and new space

From the Finger Lakes SPCA,

Finger Lakes SPCA is pleased to announce that we are the recipients of a grant from the NYS Department of Agriculture & Markets that will enable us to bring our Shelter into full compliance with new State regulations. The grant is for $409,000. Its award was part of $10 million awarded to municipal and private animal shelters and rescues throughout the state.

Michael Hopkins, Executive Director of FLSPCA said,” We’re grateful to Governor Hochul and the State Legislature for making this money available, and to the local support of our proposal. We’ve been working hard for over two years on coming into compliance with the new regulations and this will enable us to complete this task for the benefit of the animals we serve.”

The components of this project will not only affect our compliance, but help us better serve the animals entrusted to our care. The four components are a new “catio” where cats can spend time in a rich environment helping them to prepare for their new homes, the reconfiguration of some animal rooms in the shelter to make more space for their needs, a much-needed storage and laundry space, and new cat cages in our isolation unit that will give each cat more space while they heal or await surgery.
