Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic Unveils Modernized Clinical Laboratory Space to Enhance Patient Care

Julia Welbourne for Rochester Regional Health / June 3, 2026

CLIFTON SPRINGS, NY – Rochester Regional Health recently celebrated the opening of a newly modernized inpatient Clinical Laboratory at Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic (CSHC), a key milestone in the health system’s broader Chemistry Project. This initiative is aimed at upgrading laboratory technology, expanding testing capabilities, and ensuring long-term reliability across its hospitals and care sites. The state-of-the-art workspace is designed to improve collaboration, and support faster, more efficient patient care.

The new laboratory features an open, collaborative footprint that removes physical barriers between disciplines, enabling stronger communication, teamwork, and streamlined operations. The redesigned space also includes modern infrastructure, ergonomic workstations, updated flooring, and flexible capacity to accommodate future growth and technology enhancements.

“Laboratory services play a critical role in patient diagnosis, treatment, and care planning,” said CSHC President and COO Mike Rulffes. “This investment creates an environment that supports these vital team members while expanding our ability to deliver timely, high-quality diagnostic services for the patients and communities we serve.”

The modernization also significantly expands the laboratory’s testing capabilities, allowing a broader range of tests to be performed on-site. By reducing the need to send specimens to outside laboratories, patients and providers can receive results more quickly, helping to speed diagnoses, inform treatment decisions sooner, and enhance the overall patient experience.

The upgrade positions Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic’s laboratory for continued growth and innovation, ensuring the facility can meet the evolving healthcare needs of the Finger Lakes region for years to come.

While the hospital’s Clinical Laboratory operations have relocated to this newly renovated space, the outpatient draw station remains in its existing location, with no changes to patient access or service delivery.
