Staff Report / May 3, 2026

Rochester NY – The Penn Yan girls lacrosse team secured its fourth consecutive sectional championship Monday with a dominant 19-2 victory over Palmyra-Macedon in the Section V Class D title game at St. John Fisher University. The championship marks the program’s 12th overall sectional title and continues a remarkable run of success for the Mustangs. Penn Yan, the tournament’s top seed, controlled the game from the outset, building an 8-0 lead after the first quarter and extending the advantage to 15-0 by halftime.

Miley Anderson opened the scoring just 53 seconds into the contest on an assist from Ruby Berry, setting the tone for the rout. All-American Bailey Cooper led the offensive attack with six goals, while Addison Gillette and McKenna Mullins each added three. Anderson and Lila Hansen scored two goals apiece, and Berry, Gianna Voigt, and Olive Ditzell each found the back of the net once. Penn Yan held a 19-0 advantage entering the fourth quarter before Palmyra-Macedon scored its two goals. Teagan Hudak and Baylee Vilord accounted for the scoring for the Red Raiders, who finished the season with a 13-5 record.

Cooper, who increased her season total to 87 goals and her career total to 390, was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player. She was joined on the all-tournament team by Gillette, Mullins, and Hansen. With the victory, Penn Yan improved to 17-1 on the season and advanced to the sub-regional round of the state tournament, where the Mustangs will face Section VI champion Eden-North Collins. Eden-North Collins earned its sectional crown with a 10-7 win over Salamanca.
