Patriotism and Community Spirit to Highlight Yates County July 4 Events

Staff Report / June 24, 2026

YATES COUNTY — As the nation approaches the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, the Yates County Celebrates America250 Committee is organizing two community events for Independence Day weekend. Committee members say the activities are designed to celebrate the country’s founding and pay tribute to local residents who played a role in the Revolutionary War era.

The weekend celebration will get underway July 4 as the committee participates in the annual Branchport Independence Day Parade, which steps off at 2 p.m. Committee members will showcase themed floats celebrating the nation’s history, patriotic spirit, and the upcoming 250th anniversary of American independence. Activities will continue the following day with a countywide “Freedom in Faith” service at Rock Stream Presbyterian Church at 2 p.m., an event organizers say is open to individuals and families of all faith traditions.

Highlights of the Independence Day weekend events include:

  • Participation in the annual Branchport Fourth of July Parade on July 4.
  • Committee-sponsored floats celebrating American history and patriotism.
  • A countywide “Freedom in Faith” worship service on July 5 at Rock Stream Presbyterian Church.
  • A community ice cream social following the worship service.
  • Family-friendly activities hosted at the adjacent community house.
  • Recognition of Yates County’s Revolutionary War veterans and local history.

Committee officials said the events represent part of an ongoing effort to engage residents in the America250 initiative and celebrate the nation’s heritage through local history, education, and community involvement.
