Edith F. Olmstead, 106, Middlebury VT, formerly Belmont NY

Edith F, Olmstead left the loving care of her family while living at the Residence at Otter Creek Middlebury, Vermont on Tuesday, June 23, 2026.

She was born on April 20, 1920 in Belmont, Allegany County, New York to Wallace N. Francisco and Lena M. Windus Francisco. She married Norman J. Olmstead in Belmont, New York on April 10, 1942.

Edith was Norm’s devoted companion during World War II, while he served in the U.S. Army from 1942-46, She and Norm owned and operated funeral homes in Belmont and Mexico, New York, retiring in 1981. They moved to Middlebury in 1991. They were members of the Congregational Church, UCC, Middlebury. Edith was an active member of the Eastern Star in Belmont, NY and in Mexico, NY while Norm served in the Masons.

Edith lost her beloved husband, Norm, in 2012 after seventy years of marriage. She is survived by her daughter Amy Jo Emerson and her husband John D. Emerson of Middlebury, Vermont; her son Neil R. Olmstead and his wife Debra Barnickol Olmstead of Nevada City, California; four grandchildren: Jay and Pete Emerson and Dan and Laura Olmstead; four great- grandchildren: Emma Cassidy, Laura Rae, Bella Jo, and Benjamin David.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Congregational Church. Edith will be buried beside Norm at the Forest Hills Cemetery in Belmont, NY.
