PENN YAN – Community members, emergency responders, and public officials across Yates County are mourning the passing of long-time public servant and past Penn Yan Fire Department Chief Bart Winslow.
Winslow dedicated over five decades to public safety and community service in the region. He joined the Ellsworth Hose Company of the Penn Yan Fire Department in July 1970, going on to achieve status as a life member with 55 years of continuous service. Winslow led the department as Chief from 1983 to 1985 and served in various capacities throughout his tenure.
In addition to his firefighter legacy, Winslow was a dedicated member of the Yates County Sheriff’s Office, serving for many years as the Confidential Assistant to the Sheriff. Yates County Sheriff Frank Ryan issued a public statement honoring Winslow for his decades of wisdom, service, and friendship, noting that his contributions established a lasting legacy across the county.
Key milestones of Winslow’s public service career include:
- Penn Yan Fire Department: Joined the Ellsworth Hose Company in July 1970 and served for 55 years as a life member.
- Fire Chief Service: Led the Penn Yan Fire Department as Chief from 1983 to 1985.
- Sheriff’s Office Administration: Served as Confidential Assistant to the Yates County Sheriff for many years.
