BIG FLATS – Emergency planners at the Elmira Corning Regional Airport are seeking roughly 40 community volunteers to participate in an upcoming full-scale disaster simulation next month.
Scheduled for Saturday, September 12, from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., the exercise will simulate a major aircraft disaster. Volunteers will act as injured passengers to help local emergency medical services, firefighters, and law enforcement practice realistic disaster response procedures. The drill will feature flashing lights, loud sound effects, and realistic simulated injuries created using makeup and fake blood.
Key details regarding volunteer requirements, perks, and registration include:
- Age & Participation Requirements: Volunteers must be at least 8 years old and available for the entire three-hour duration of the exercise. Participants under 18 require parental or guardian consent.
