Dorothy J. Cornish, 94, Wellsville

Dorothy J. “Dot” CORNISH, 94, of Wellsville, NY, died Saturday, September 12, 2026, in Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester.

  Born January 11, 1932, in North Hornell, she was the daughter of Earl E. and Violet Whitford Brown. 

On July 12, 1958, in Wellsville, she married Duane C. “Dish” Cornish, who predeceased her on August 7, 2014. 

A 1950 graduate of Wellsville Central School, she was employed by Worthington in the 50’s, J.J. Newberry as a lunch counter manager, the Village Coffee Shop, Super Duper, New York telephone as an operator, and retired from Key Bank after 20 years.  After retirement, she delivered Meals on Wheels and took a nurse’s aide course and worked in home healthcare.  Dot was a member of First Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Wellsville, Wellsville American Legion Auxiliary Unit #702, and a life member of the Wellsville Firemen’s Auxiliary.  She was active with Scio Seniors Sunshine Club, Top of the Hill Camp Club, PALS Camping, Wellsville Grand Squares, and Penny Promenaders.  

Dot loved spending time with her grandchildren, doing crafts, decorative painting, and Monday Night music at the VFW.  While as Wellsville Manor Hills, Dot enjoyed playing bingo, painting, music, and playing cornhole.  

Surviving are: two daughters, Donita (Don) Linza of Wellsville and Kelly (Don) Clemons of Andover; four grandchildren, Michelle Linza, Donnie (Stephanie) Clemons, Jeremy (Amber) Clemons, and Amy Clemons; 12 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Lorraine Spowart; nieces and nephews. 

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by two brothers, Ward Brown and Earl E. Brown; and two sisters, Phyllis A. Graves and Kay A. Blessing. 

Friends may call at First Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 470 North Main Street, Wellsville, NY on Thursday, September 17, 2026 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM, with Funeral Services following at 4:00 PM.  Rev. Bill Willson will officiate.  Burial will be in Stannards Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to Wellsville Manor Hills Activities Department.
