Podcast Explores Flu, RSV & Seasonal Viruses

Anne Johnston, University of Rochester Medicine Thompson Health / September 15, 2026

CANANDAIGUA – In the latest episode of Thompson Health’s podcast, Thompson On-Air, host Dave Carro sits down with Stacey Gibbs, the system’s director of infection prevention, and Daniel Bentz, the clinical pharmacist who manages Thompson’s two outpatient pharmacies, to answer the questions families ask every fall: who needs a flu shot, whether RSV is a serious concern, and where the COVID vaccination stands today.

Gibbs and Bentz discuss how experts forecast the season ahead; how to tell flu, RSV, COVID, and the common cold apart; who is most at risk of serious illness; and which vaccines are recommended for which people. They also address a few of the misconceptions they hear most often and the warning signs that mean it is time to seek care.

Thompson On-Air is available on the Thompson Health website at www.ThompsonHealth.com/Podcast, where listeners can find an embedded player and links to popular podcast platforms, including Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and iHeartRadio. New episodes are released monthly, covering a wide range of health and wellness topics.
