PENN YAN — Yates County residents looking to safely dispose of expired or unused household medications can participate in a convenient, drive-through Drug Take Back event hosted at the Yates County Courthouse.
The initiative aims to prevent prescription drug abuse, accidental poisonings, and environmental contamination by offering a free, anonymous drop-off location for unwanted pharmaceuticals. All collected medications will be turned over to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for proper and secure disposal.
Key details for participating residents include:
- Location: Rear entrance of the Yates County Courthouse, located at 415 Liberty Street, Penn Yan, NY 14527.
- Hours: Drive-through collection will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
- Cost: Free and open to all Yates County residents.
- Procedure: Drivers can pull up to the collection point at the rear of the building, where a Yates County Deputy Sheriff will receive the unwanted medications directly from their vehicle.
- Year-Round Alternatives: Residents unable to attend the event can utilize permanent drug drop boxes situated at authorized law enforcement locations throughout the county.
