Presentation to Explore Complexities of Gender, Sexuality

Anne Johnston / October 16, 2026

CANANDAIGUA – On Wednesday, Oct. 28, Wood Library at 134 N. Main St. in Canandaigua will host a presentation called “Beyond Two Boxes: Examining the Complexities of Gender and Sexuality.”

Held in the library’s Hamlin Room from 6 to 7:30 p.m., the interactive session will examine historical, biological, and genetic realities of gender and sexuality from scientific as well as social understandings. The discussion is designed to help develop stronger individuals, families, workplaces, and communities.

Presenter Scott Fearing, an LGBTQ+ activist, is the former director of education and executive director for the Out Alliance (previously called the Gay Alliance of the Genesee Valley). Originally from Minnesota, where he was coordinator of education for an LGBTQ+ organization serving the entire state, he began his community activism in the early 1980s, focusing on HIV/AIDS prevention and awareness. Over the past four decades, Fearing’s educational efforts have taken him across the country, working with hundreds of corporations, health centers, and campuses as well as countless social service organizations.
