PRATTSBURGH — The Prattsburgh American Legion is hosting informational meetings on an issue that advocates are trying to get the truth out about regarding the proposed tax break for 100% disabled veterans.
This program comes after several town board meetings where it was reported that the proposal was rejected without first asking the town assessor to determine how much money would be spent. Legion members stated that there are no veterans in Prattsburgh town who have been given a 100% Permanent and Total (P&T) disability rating, and that this information would have been easily obtained beforehand.
Advocates specifically thanked Town Council Member Pete Scheid for attempting to research the issue during the meeting and sharing his father’s story, contrasting his engagement with the broader board’s dismissal.
Dates and times for the informational sessions at the Prattsburgh American Legion post will be announced once finalized. In the meantime, organizers are collaborating with veteran representatives across the area to assemble comprehensive, factual data on New York State’s disabled veteran tax exemption guidelines and local opt-in provisions to present to residents and town officials.
