John Rufus Scott, age 77, of Holland, Michigan passed away at Holland Hospital on Monday, August 18, 2025.
John was born on February 9, 1948, in Wellsville, New York to Rufus and Ethel Scott. John attended Wellsville High School, Johns Hopkins University and New York Medical College. After completing his medical residency at Geisenger Medical Center, Dr. Scott practiced medicine as an internist and general practitioner in Wellsville, NY. He moved to Holland, MI, in 1995 where he continued his medical practice until his retirement. Dr. Scott cared deeply for all the patients he treated in his more than 40 years as a physician. John had many interests including history, railroads and photography, but his greatest passion was his family, especially his cherished grandchildren. John will be deeply missed by many.
John is survived by: his wife, Deborah Scott (Coats) of Holland, MI (originally of Wellsville, NY); daughter, Sarah Scott (Joseph Donald) of Fishers, IN; son, Nathan (Yuko) Scott of Cincinnati, OH; sister, Julia Van Dyke of Avon, IN; grandchildren, Danica, Alexander, Bethany and Meredith Engelund of Fishers, IN; grandchildren, Macy and Amelia Scott of Cincinnati, OH; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
John was preceded in death by: his parents, Rufus Scott and Ethel Scott (Macy) of Wellsville, NY.
A visitation for John will be held Saturday, September 6, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Lakeshore Memorial Services, 11939 James St., Holland, Michigan 49424, followed by a celebration of life at 1:00 PM.
