Historic Seneca Lake Winery Changes Hands After Nearly Five Decades

Staff Report / November 11, 2025

DUNDEE, N.Y. — One of Seneca Lake’s most well-known wineries has entered a new era, marking its first change in ownership since it opened nearly half a century ago. Glenora Wine Cellars, a landmark operation in Yates County, officially transferred ownership on Monday, November 10.

Founded in 1977 and opening its doors the following year, Glenora became the first commercial winery on Seneca Lake, setting the stage for what would become one of the Finger Lakes’ most celebrated wine regions. Through the decades, the business expanded significantly—boosting production in the late 1980s and later adding a 30-room inn and a restaurant in 2000, further solidifying its standing as a major tourism destination.

The winery had been listed for sale in recent years, culminating in a completed purchase this week. The new owner, FLX Family Winery, LLC, is affiliated with Lilly Brothers Brewing—the company behind Horseheads Brewing.
