We just had to share our recent delightful discovery: Babes & Buds Coffee Lounge. Stepping inside, we were charmed by the shop’s wonderfully funky, kitschy, and eclectic BOHO vibe. It is definitely not your average coffee spot; the small, cozy space is endearing, packed with personality and a warm, inviting atmosphere that encourages conversation. The decor skips the sterile, slick look of corporate chains entirely, offering instead a visual feast that perfectly matches the spirit of the Watkins Glen community. It truly felt like we had stumbled upon a genuine neighborhood treasure.
The atmosphere captivated us, but the food absolutely stole the show, especially the fantastic commitment to plant-based options. We were thrilled to find such a great selection of vegan choices. I enjoyed a vegan breakfast bagel that was absolutely delicious! It was perfectly crafted with a warm sesame bagel, generous smears of vegan cream cheese, fresh avocado, and sliced tomato, a simple yet flawless morning treat. Kathy, who does not eat beef or pork was surprised to learn that they had turkey sausage available, an option rarely found when we eat out.
The two young people running the counter were incredibly engaging and knowledgeable, happily chatting with us about vegan lifestyles and the choices that go into their menu. Plus, the locals who popped in while we were there were a truly interesting bunch to listen to, adding to the rich tapestry of the coffee shop’s appeal.
So, here’s our friendly warning and enthusiastic recommendation: If your comfort zone is the predictable, sterile environment of a corporate coffee chain, Babes & Buds may not be to your liking. But, if you are genuinely interested in exploring something different, a place with soul, character, and an authentic community feel it is a great stop. We think everyone should visit for the trifecta of excellent coffee, engaging conversation, and seriously delicious, inclusive food.
