The U.S. Postal Service recently changed how frequently mail is transported to regional processing centers where postmarks are applied. As a result, some mail may no longer receive a postmark dated the same day it is dropped off or collected, which could be problematic for time-sensitive filings and payments. Customers can still ensure a same-day postmark by requesting a free manual postmark at a USPS retail counter. Alternative payment and filing options include, online or in-person methods.
