Two Florida Residents Arrested After High-Speed Chase Through Yates and Ontario Counties

Staff Report / January 29, 2026

A dramatic multi-county police pursuit ended Wednesday afternoon with the arrest of two people and the recovery of a stolen handgun after a vehicle fled from law enforcement at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour.

At approximately 3:42 p.m. on Wednesday, Yates County Sheriff’s Deputies attempted to pull over a dark green Mercedes-Benz on State Route 14 in the Town of Torrey for an unspecified traffic stop. Instead of stopping, the vehicle sped away, igniting a pursuit that would stretch into neighboring Ontario County.

Deputies were joined in the chase by a New York State Trooper in the area, and radar readings briefly clocked the fleeing vehicle at 112 mph before it exited State Route 14 and turned onto Snell Road. The pursuit continued onto White Springs Road before authorities terminated the chase in the City of Geneva due to public safety concerns related to the high speeds.

Moments after losing visual contact with the vehicle, officers spotted the Mercedes-Benz stopped on Grove Street, where both occupants were seen running on foot. With backup from the Geneva Police Department, the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, and New York State Police, law enforcement quickly established a perimeter. Both suspects were located and taken into custody without further incident.

Investigators also recovered a stolen handgun at the scene during the arrest.

The suspects were identified as 22-year-old Alex Valcin and 21-year-old Briana S. Rejuis, both from Delray Beach, Florida. Authorities charged them with criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, additional weapon possession-related charges, and criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree.

Valcin faces several additional charges, including unlawfully fleeing a police officer, reckless endangerment, reckless driving, and numerous vehicle and traffic violations stemming from the high-speed flight.

Both defendants were transported to the Yates County Jail and were awaiting arraignment. Law enforcement officials say the investigation remains active, and additional charges may be forthcoming.
