Richard E. Pielow, 79, Wellsville

Richard E. PIELOW, 79, of Wellsville, NY, died Thursday, February12, 2026 in UR Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester. 

Born January 3, 1947, in Cuba, he was the son of Walter E. and Patricia A. Gormley Pielow.  A 1965 graduate of Angelica High School, he earned an engineering degree from Alfred University. 

He was employed as an engineer by Dresser-Rand and RMT in Wellsville.  Richard served in the US Army Reserves for six years.  He was a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church in Wellsville.  

Richard played the mellophone with the Blue Devils, St. Joe’s, and lastly the Syracuse Brigadiers, winning a national championship.  He loved animals, especially his cats.  Dick was a soft spoken, gentle, and kind man.  

Surviving are: a brother, Michael J. (Laura) Pielow of Wellsville; three nieces, Gillian Pielow, Aleshia (Steve) Krol, and Sarah (Brian) Castano; five grandnephews, Max, Al, Leo, Sam, and Ben. 

He was predeceased by his parents. 

 Friends may call at Olney-Foust & Embser Funeral Homes & Cremation, 34 West State Street, Wellsville, NY on Monday, February 16, 2026 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM, with a Memorial Service following at 4:00 PM.  Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Belfast.
