A transformer fire sparked a temporary power outage in part of Penn Yan on Sunday afternoon, according to local officials.
The incident occurred on Flatt Street around 12:30 p.m., when a transformer caught fire and ignited a nearby grass fire. The outage affected the northern portion of the village.
Firefighters from Penn Yan’s Hunter, Hook & Ladder Volunteer Fire Company responded quickly and were able to extinguish the grass fire shortly after arriving on scene.
Utility crews worked to restore electricity to affected residents, with power fully restored by approximately 2:30 p.m., officials said.
No injuries were reported in connection with the incident. Authorities have not released additional details as the situation remains under review.
