A death investigation in Tompkins County has escalated into a homicide case, with authorities confirming that a suspect is now in custody as investigators continue to gather evidence. The incident prompted a significant law enforcement response in the Village of Cayuga Heights near Ithaca.
According to Cayuga Heights Police, officers and emergency medical personnel responded to a report of a stabbing on Triphammer Road shortly after 2 p.m. on May 23. Upon arrival, responders located an adult victim suffering from serious injuries. Despite lifesaving efforts, the victim was pronounced dead. Police Chief Jerry Wright later confirmed the case is being treated as a murder investigation.
Authorities said a sole suspect was identified during the investigation and subsequently taken into custody. Law enforcement officials have not publicly released the identities of either the victim or suspect pending notification procedures and the ongoing investigation.
Multiple agencies assisted with the response, including members of the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office and other regional law enforcement partners. Investigators remained at the scene for several hours collecting evidence and interviewing potential witnesses.
Officials have emphasized that there is no continuing threat to the public. The investigation remains active, and additional information, including potential charges and court proceedings, is expected to be released as the case moves forward.
