Richard M. Foster, 87, Hartsville

Richard M. “Dick” Foster, 87, of Purdy Creek Rd. passed away Monday May 25, 2026 at Wellsville Manor where he had been a resident since May of 2025.

Dick was born September 6, 1938 in Wellsville to the late Byron and Marion (Clark) Foster. On May 8, 1958 in Canisteo, he married the former Patricia Woodworth who predeceased him October 1, 2025.

After high school he began work at the Oil Fields, then moved on to Arkport Dairies and finally to the Foster Wheeler Co. in Dansville where he retired as an electrician. He was a life -long resident of Hartsville where he and Pat made their home in 1964 and raised their family.

 Dick loved the outdoors enjoying hunting, fishing and camping with family and friends. He loved telling stories and one of his favorites was about their trip to California and how he drove a crew cab truck down Lombard Street in San Francisco also known as “The Crookedest Street in the World”

He is survived by sons, Richard Foster of Andover, Michael Foster of Hornell, Steven (Barbara) Foster of Thatcherville, Daniel (Yvonne) Foster of Canandaigua and Douglas (Victoria) Foster of Hartsville. 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

 In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by brothers David and Gary Foster.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Saturday May 30, 2026 at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home in Canisteo where a funeral and committal prayers will take place immediately following calling hours at 7:00pm. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Canisteo.
