Mossy Bank Set for Major Enhancements Following Successful Conservation Efforts

Staff Report / June 16, 2026

BATH — Mossy Bank Park continues to evolve as one of Steuben County’s most cherished scenic destinations, with village officials and members of the Mossy Bank Commission highlighting the success of recent conservation efforts and outlining plans for future improvements. During the Village Board’s June meeting, held at the park, officials toured the property and reviewed progress on the innovative slash wall project while discussing a series of enhancements aimed at improving visitor experiences and preserving the natural beauty of the site for future generations.

A message from the Village of Bath, New York Mayor.

“The village board convened its monthly June meeting at Mossy Bank last night, preceded by a tour of the park, including the slash wall, which is nearing the end of its second year. I am pleased to report that the slash wall is functioning as intended. I have attached two photographs for reference, one illustrating the growth within the slash wall and the other demonstrating the absence of growth outside of it. For those interested in observing this firsthand, I invite you to visit Mossy Bank and explore the new observation deck situated atop the slash wall.

Exciting updates are on the horizon for Mossy Bank, where a series of enhancements are set to elevate this natural gem. Thanks to grants and generous donations, we’re moving forward with plans to create a new walking park, among other improvements. Here’s what’s taking shape: a new park area is being designed within the existing park, adjacent to the winter parking lot, made possible by a grant awarded to the Mossy Bank Commission in 2025. Next, the observation area will be refreshed with selective tree and brush removal scheduled for October, accompanied by a fresh coat of paint on the vehicle railings. Most importantly, we’re embarking on a fundraising effort to build a stunning new observation area, replacing the outdated one that’s served us for decades. Your contribution can make a difference – reach out to a Mossy Bank Committee member to learn how you can support this initiative. Together, we can preserve the beauty of this treasured New York State destination.”

With the slash wall performing as intended and several new projects moving forward through grant funding and community support, Mossy Bank is entering an exciting new chapter. Planned improvements, including a new walking park, upgrades to observation areas, and the development of a modern scenic overlook, reflect a continued commitment to protecting and enhancing one of the region’s most popular outdoor destinations. Community members interested in supporting these efforts.
