Over 70 kids attended, Wellsville’s Hayden Shutt and Bath’s Maggie Smith were “Campers of the Week”

Hornell Sun Senior Sports Writer AVOCA-The 20th Annual Shoot the Lights out Basketball Camp wrapped up its 20th Camp Friday July 17, at Avoca Central School. Over 70 kids from all over the area attended, including two girls from Arizona and a young man from Oklahoma. Local kids came from Avoca, Arkport, Bath, Corning, Prattsburgh, Hornell, Canisteo-Greenwood, Wayland-Cohocton, Jasper-Troupsburg, Bradford, Dundee, Addison & Wellsville.
The Coaching Staff included Avoca-Prattsburgh Varsity Girls Coach Trista Sullivan who graduated from Bath and played College Basketball at Keuka College. Recent Hammondsport graduate Henry Morrison, Morrison was selected All-State in Class D this past season and graduated as Hammondsport’s All-time leading scorer. Section Five Hall of Fame member and Avoca Graduate Chris Sullivan came back to his Alma Mater to help out at Camp. Sullivan played and later Coached at St. John Fisher. Other Coaches were Athens, PA girls Modified Coach Aaron Lane, Addison girls Modified Coach Max Young, Andrew Morrison, Keira Marsh and Steve Sutfin. The Camp is directed by Section Four Hall of Fame Coach Bill Hopkins. Keuka College women’s Coach Paige Emborsky served as a guest Instructor on Tuesday and spoke to the campers.
Campers of the week were Hayden Shutt from Wellsville and Maggie Smith from Bath. The Caitlin Clark Shooter of the week award went to Alyssa Symonds from Addison. The Steph Curry Shooter of the week award was Grayson Enders from Bath. Most improved Campers were Alex Wilson from Corning and Janiah Crowder from Avoca-Prattsburgh. Coaches awards went to Hudson Nadjadi from Bath, Kylee Fink from Avoca-Prattsburgh, Damien Elward from Avoca-Prattsburgh, Piper Frazier from Wayland-Cohocton, and Zeb Sanford from Avoca-Prattsburgh. Next year’s Avoca Camp will be July 12-16 2027. T
