CANANDAIGUA – Ontario County Public Health is currently investigating two related cases of measles in unvaccinated residents, though health officials emphasize that the overall risk to the general public remains low, especially for individuals who are fully vaccinated.
The health department was notified of the positive test results on Monday, August 31. According to officials, both individuals isolated safely at home during their contagious window to prevent further community spread. Additional personal details are being withheld to protect patient privacy.
Health officials note that while the majority of county residents are vaccinated and protected, unvaccinated individuals, pregnant women, infants under 12 months, and immunocompromised persons face a higher risk of severe illness if exposed. Adults born before 1957 are generally presumed immune due to widespread exposure prior to vaccine availability.
