From the Bath Rotary Club,
Recently several members of the Bath Rotary Club toured the Dana Lyon Apartments. The 49 units are equipped with complete kitchens, spacious living and dining areas, bathrooms, bedrooms (one or two), and ample closets. Most units are handicap accessible while 5 units are wheelchair accessible, and 2 units were constructed for the hearing and/or visually impaired. The Rotarians were most impressed with the number of amenities in the building, including an intercom entry system, elevator, tenant storage, self-pay laundry room, community room, exercise room, fenced playground, etc.
The apartments are located in the former Dana Lyon School on Liberty Street in Bath. While on the tour, two of the participants remarked that they well remember their experience at the former school. Elaine Tears, Bath Rotarian, noted that she had attended the school from kindergarten with Miss Parker to sixth grade with Mr. Schirmer. Woody Latour, husband of Bath Rotarian Nancy Latour, remarked that he had taught Special Education many years ago in the lower level of the school.
The Rotarians voiced the fact that the apartments are indeed an excellent use of the former school and are pleased to see that the building still stands on its original site.
After the tour of the apartments the group also visited the YMCA, located adjacent to the apartments and soon realized that it had been the site of the cafeteria in the former school.
