The Finger Lakes Land Trust (FLLT) has announced its upcoming calendar of public outdoor activities, educational presentations, and community fundraisers scheduled across the region throughout September.
The non-profit organization, which works to protect vital natural areas, farmlands, and water resources across the Finger Lakes, invites community members to participate in guided nature walks, social gatherings, and land conservation seminars.
Events for September are:
- Saturday, September 12 — Talks & Treks: Fantastical Fungi: A free, guided public walk hosted at the Wesley Hill Nature Preserve. Participants will explore local fungal diversity and learn about mushroom ecology within protected forest habitats.
- Thursday, September 24 — Raise a Pint to Conservation! (5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.): A community happy hour hosted at Birdhouse Brewing in Honeoye. Attendees can meet FLLT staff and learn about the organization’s Hemlock to High Tor Initiative, which focuses on land and water protection in the western Finger Lakes. Birdhouse Brewing will donate $1 for every beverage sold to support local conservation efforts.
- Thursday, September 24 — A Tale of Two Land Trusts: A joint presentation hosted in Skaneateles by Cornell Cooperative Extension Onondaga County. FLLT Conservation Projects Manager Amy Olney and Central New York Land Trust (CNYLT) Executive Director Patrick Lynch will discuss regional land acquisition, stream restoration, and watershed protection efforts surrounding Skaneateles Lake.
- Wednesday, September 30 — Open Space Protection: A Presentation for Landowners: A free informative seminar hosted by FLLT Director of Conservation Kate Riley at Canandaigua Town Hall (with a hybrid online option). The presentation will guide local property owners through options for permanently protecting their open space and natural lands via conservation easements and land protection programs.
