ALBANY – Approximately 8.2 million New York residents will soon receive state-funded Energy Rebate Checks worth up to $200 as part of funding allocated in this year’s state budget.
The direct payment amounts, ranging from $100 to $200, are determined by a taxpayer’s filing status and total income reported on their 2024 state tax return. State officials confirmed that payments will begin mailing on September 21 and will continue to be distributed through December. To qualify, residents must have filed a timely 2024 income tax return, maintained full-time New York residency, and not been claimed as a dependent on another individual’s return.
The payment tiers and eligibility criteria include:
- $200 Rebate: Joint filers with a combined 2024 income under $150,000.
- $150 Rebate: Joint filers with a combined 2024 income between $150,000 and $300,000.
- $100 Rebate: Single filers with an income under $150,000.
- Distribution Schedule: Paper checks will be issued continuously between September 21 and December.
