Larry Dean Geffers, Sr., 73, died on Saturday (September 26, 2026) surrounded by his loving family at his daughter’s home.
Mr. Geffers was born on May 8, 1953 in Hornell to Kenneth and Beatrice (Teribury) Geffers. He was a 1972 graduate of Belmont Central School.
Larry was known and respected by many for his strong work ethic. During high school, he worked both before and after classes for local dairy farms. After graduating, he was employed at the foundry in Friendship until their closing. In later years, he ran a successful excavating business while employed as a welder at Air Pre-Heater in Wellsville, where he took an early retirement following a horrific motorcycle accident in May, 1999.
Larry is survived by his ex-wife, Judith; eight children, Joy (Doug), Jenny, Larry Jr. (Sparkle), Barry (Kim), Brandy, Brandon (Kali), Corina (Rodney) and Lance (Anastasia); sisters, Linda Austin, Judy Matteson; a brother, Raymond Geffers; 27 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; a special friend, Marge Dean and his buddy, Tommy Wallace.
Along with his parents, Larry was predeceased by a son, Larry Hadsell; a grandson Kolton Geffers; sisters, Mary Geffers, Margarite Giblin, and Sandy (Charles) Davis; brothers Calvin “Bub” Geffers, Joel (Chris) Geffers, Kenneth Geffers, Daniel Mullen III, James (Betty) Geffers; and brothers-in-law, Claude Austin, Calvin Matteson and Richard Wolfegang.
Larry’s first love was fast cars. He passed on that love and knowledge to his children. He never missed cheering on his favorite football team, the Buffalo Bills.
His family meant everything to him. He loved them unconditionally. He often played cards or board games with them—and he never turned down the opportunity for a trip to the casino. He was his children’s biggest fan; he was so proud of each and every one of them.
Larry was proud to be a Geffers. He did not take lightly what that meant. He lived it with pride and honor, passing on to his children and grandchildren that hard work and integrity are what being a Geffers involved. Because of him, future generations will carry on that legacy.
Larry will be missed by all who loved him. Losing him leaves a huge hole in each heart and in the fabric of the family.
Visitation will be held on Saturday (October 3, 2026) from 2:30-3:30 p.m. at Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Scio/Wellsville, followed by the funeral service at 3:30 officiated by Pastor Marc Chamberlain of Genesis Bible Church.
