Village of Penn Yan Dept. of Public Works / October 2, 2026
The Penn Yan Municipal Utilities Water Crew will be flushing the Village hydrants the week of October 5th. The flushing is done to thoroughly clean the Village’s water delivery system.
This flushing of the hydrants can cause discoloration of the water in your household. This doesn’t mean it is unsafe. If you have discolored water, the Village recommends running cold water from your tap for 3-5 minutes then fill a glass with water and inspect it for clarity. If the water is discolored, wait 15 – 20 minutes and repeat the procedure.
Any questions can be directed to the Department of Public Works at 315-536-5866
This flushing is required by the New York State Department of Health to clean sediment out of the system
