Lawrence W. Rodgers, 86, Andover

ANDOVER – Lawrence W. “Larry” “Ike” Rogers, 86, passed away on Friday (October 2, 2026) in Marine City, MI where he recently moved to be near family.

Larry was born on June 5, 1940 in Indianapolis, IN to Clayton L. and Helen (Zigler) Rogers. He was a 1958 graduate of Greenwood Central School. On April 19, 1991, in their gazebo in Florida, he married Carolyn June Thorp who survives.

Ike was a machinist for Dresser-Rand in Wellsville for 33 years, retiring in 2002. He previously delivered soft drinks for Canada Dry in Hornell.

In addition to his wife of 35 years, Larry is survived by eight children, Doreen (Ed) Joyce of Paris, KY, Michael (Beth) Rogers of Largo, FL, Pamela (Michael) Kammer of Marine City, MI, Michele Crandall and Calvin Hart, both of North Carolina, Jeffery (Julie) Dannheim of Sanford, NC and Julie (Dale) Black of Marine City, MI; a sister-in-law, Laura Rogers of Colorado; 12 grandchildren, Devin (Cory) Joyce, Tristin (Katlin) Joyce, Matthew (Allie) Rogers, Bradley (Katy) Rogers, Crystal Walton, Tony Kammer, Cameron (Katherine) Crandall, Ian Dannheim, Chandler Dannheim, Jacob Dannheim, Gregory Black and Donivan (Moriah) Black; 15 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by a brother, Richard Rogers and a great granddaughter, Stacia Kammer.

Ike loved being outdoors. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and trapper and prided himself as a ginseng digger. He kept an immaculate yard and loved growing vegetables in his garden up on Independence Hill.

Larry was a romantic at heart, enjoying time with his wife. Together they delighted in dancing, playing cards, taking walks, bowling and riding the back roads of Allegany County. At home, he liked siting in the sunroom working puzzles or watching sports on TV.

With family in Florida and Michigan, Ike often made the drive to visit his many grandchildren. In his younger days, boating on Foster Lake was especially enjoyable.

Ike was a lifetime member of the Andover Rod and Gun Club, Alfred Rod and Gun Club and the Canisteo Rod and Gun Club. He was a member of the Wellsville Moose Lodge 601. In 2024 he came to know Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and started attending the Andover First Baptist Church.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday (October 7) from 6-8 p.m. at Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Andover. The funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11:00 at the Andover First Baptist Church with burial following in Hillside Cemetery. Online condolences may be offered at www.baker-swan.com.
