Wayne Alan Schultz, 62, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday (September 17, 2026), following a brief illness.
Wayne was born on February 23, 1964, in Cuba, New York, the son of the late Howard W. Schultz and Olive R. Haskins. He was a 1983 graduate of Friendship Central School.
Wayne will be remembered for his outgoing personality, quick sense of humor, and his ability to bring laughter to those around him. He was known as the life of the party and cherished the many friendships he made throughout his life. He especially enjoyed spending time with his close friends, Dave Eck, Brad Barber, and Bill Buddell.
An avid sports fan, Wayne enjoyed watching NASCAR and football, proudly cheering on his favorite team, the Buffalo Bills. He also enjoyed listening to rock music, hunting, and working on cars. Wayne often spoke about his dream of building a shed around the tree in his yard and starting his own business, which he jokingly planned to call “Shade Tree Mechanics.”
Most important to Wayne was his family, especially his daughter, Brittany, and his three grandchildren. Wayne treasured the memories he made with Brittany throughout her childhood, including riding together in his red Firebird and watching WWE on television.
Wayne took great pleasure in being a grandfather. He especially enjoyed Halloween, when he would put on a mask and have fun frightening his grandchildren. His playful spirit and sense of humor created memories that his family will carry with them for years to come. Wayne’s favorite treats were Smarties and M&M’s.
Wayne is survived by his daughters Brittany (Alex) Hope of Friendship and Misty L. Smith of Friendship; five grandchildren; Bryson Burns, Rylee Hope and Oliver Hope, Grace Drumm and Emery Drumm; three sisters, Linda Barber of Belfast, Sally (Jody) Robinson of Florida and Julie Peet of North Carolina.
He was predeceased by his parents, Howard W. Schultz and Olive R. Haskins; his three brothers, Roy Schultz, Leland Schultz, and Paul Schultz.
Per his wishes, there will be no services. Arrangements are under the direction of Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Wellsville/Scio. Online condolences may be offered at www.baker-swan.com. © 2026 Baker-Swan Funeral Home.
