Proposed Law Affects Boating Near Branchport Sandbar on Keuka Lake

A new law could alter recreational boating near Branchport; public hearing scheduled.

A new law could alter recreational boating near Branchport; public hearing scheduled.

The Town of Jerusalem is proposing a new law, the “Vessel Anchoring and Rafting Law,” that could significantly alter how people enjoy the popular sandbar near Crescent Beach in Branchport. A public hearing is set for July 17th at 7 pm to gather resident input on the changes.

The new law restricts anchoring and rafting near the sandbar. Under the proposal, boats would no longer be allowed to anchor between the shoreline and the channel marker buoys, or within 500 feet of the shore itself. Exceptions are made for emergencies and fishing activities. Additionally, boaters will need to maintain at least 50 feet of distance between their vessels.

The upcoming hearing is a chance for residents to make their voices heard. Whether you’re a concerned boater or simply someone who enjoys spending time on the sandbar, the Town of Jerusalem encourages you to attend the July 17th meeting and share your views on the proposed law.
