The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) has announced significant progress on its $12 million disaster mitigation project for State Route 54A, which runs along the west side of Keuka Lake. This initiative focuses on improving drainage systems and infrastructure to better handle heavy rainfall and minimize travel disruptions. The project, despite typical seasonal constraints, requires continuous work from June 21 through Labor Day to ensure its timely completion.
Set to finish by spring 2025, the project includes the installation of a new water main for the Village of Hammondsport. To reduce disruptions, the work will be carried out in a single zone. NYSDOT has emphasized the necessity of following temporary traffic controls and flaggers to ensure both safety and efficiency throughout the construction phase.
