Three Penn Yan Academy seniors have been awarded $1,000 scholarships from the Johnson-Costello Post #355 of the American Legion.
On June 12, the Johnson-Costello Post #355 of the American Legion in Penn Yan honored three Penn Yan Academy seniors with $1,000 scholarships. The awards were made possible by a generous donation from the estate of Martha Rouin, a World War II veteran and mother of Phil Rouin, former Yates County Veterans’ Service Officer.
The scholarship recipients were selected based on their impressive applications and performance during interviews with the Scholarship Committee. The winners are:
- Addyson Webber, who plans to leverage her academic skills and passion for the fine arts at Elmira College, with ambitions of becoming an entrepreneur.
- Mason Bush, who will attend Finger Lakes Community College, aiming to become a state conservation officer or a forester with a focus on invasive species awareness and forest preservation education.
- Rachael Garvey, bound for SUNY Geneseo, hopes to support athletes as a sports and exercise psychologist, enhancing their mental game.
The scholarships reflect the legacy of Martha Rouin and the Post’s commitment to supporting promising students in their academic and career aspirations.
