Bath Couple Arrested After Newborn Found with Withdrawal Symptoms

BATH, N.Y. — Don Lewis will be officially sworn in as the new Chief of Police for the Village of Bath during a ceremony scheduled for 5:30 p.m. this evening at the Bath Village Hall. Lewis recently left his role as an investigator with the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office to accept the position. He continues to serve as a fire investigator for the county and remains the fire chief of the Canisteo Fire Company. Bath Village Mayor Michael Sweet expressed confidence in the department's new leadership, stating he is very pleased with the work Chief Lewis has done so far in his new role.

A Bath couple was arrested after their newborn was found suffering from drug withdrawal, following an unmonitored home birth.

A couple from Bath, New York, has been arrested following a disturbing incident involving their newborn child. On August 27, Amber R. Mix, 30, and Roy C. Flansburg, 54, were taken into custody after an investigation revealed that their infant was suffering from withdrawal symptoms due to illegal narcotics.

According to the Village of Bath Police Department, the couple did not seek medical care during Mix’s pregnancy, and the child was born at home. The investigation further uncovered that Mix had not visited a doctor throughout her pregnancy, leading to severe health concerns for the newborn.

The baby has since been placed in foster care by Child Protective Services. Mix faces a felony charge of first-degree reckless endangerment, while Flansburg is charged with endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor. Both individuals were released after their arrest.
