Penn Yan Girl Recovers After Being Hit by CarA 12-year-old girl is recovering from injuries sustained after being struck by a car in Penn Yan on Tuesday morning.
The incident occurred around 7 a.m. as the girl was walking to school. According to Penn Yan Police, 66-year-old Sharon Elwell, a local resident, was attempting to turn left from Chapel Street onto Liberty Street when she failed to yield to the girl in the crosswalk.
The injured child was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Elwell was issued a traffic ticket for failing to yield to a pedestrian.
Local authorities are urging drivers to remain vigilant, particularly in areas with heavy foot traffic, especially during school hours.
