This week, Habitat for Humanity affiliates in Chemung, Schuyler, and Steuben Counties will pay tribute to former President Jimmy Carter, celebrating nearly four decades of his unwavering dedication to Habitat for Humanity and its mission to provide affordable housing.
As part of the tribute, a symbolic wall featuring a door will be constructed, representing the many doors of opportunity that Carter helped open for families worldwide through his lifelong service.
The community is invited to join the tribute by signing the wall and door with their name or a personal message. The event will take place on Wednesday, January 8, at the Center Court in the Arnot Mall in Horseheads. Assembly of the memorial will begin at 3 p.m., followed by a brief memorial service at 4 p.m.
The wall will remain on display at the mall through January 13 and will later be incorporated into a future Habitat for Humanity project, ensuring Carter’s legacy continues to inspire.
