Ontario County Deputy and Massachusetts Driver Involved in Gorham Collision

A two-vehicle crash involving an Ontario County sheriff’s deputy occurred Thursday afternoon, leading to temporary road closures and minor injuries for those involved.

A two-vehicle crash involving an Ontario County sheriff’s deputy occurred Thursday afternoon, leading to temporary road closures and minor injuries for those involved.

The collision happened around 12:22 p.m. on Route 247 amidst challenging weather conditions, including blowing snow and drifting, according to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office.

Pauline Rice, 77, of North Grafton, Massachusetts, was driving a 2025 Kia Seltos northbound when her vehicle began to fishtail due to the icy road conditions. Following behind was Deputy Tatiana Sosnowsky, 28, of Canandaigua, who was on routine patrol in a marked sheriff’s vehicle. Deputies reported that Sosnowsky’s patrol car also lost traction, resulting in a rear-end collision with Rice’s vehicle. Both cars veered off the roadway and became stuck in snowdrifts.

Rice was transported to F.F. Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua by Gorham Ambulance with complaints of back pain. Deputy Sosnowsky reported a minor hand injury but did not require hospitalization.

The accident led to the closure of Route 247 for approximately 90 minutes as crews worked to clear the vehicles and address the snow buildup. Responders included members of the Gorham and Stanley fire departments, the Gorham Ambulance, the Gorham Highway Department, the New York State Department of Transportation, and State Police.

Authorities have stated that the crash remains under investigation.
