Regional School Districts Prepare for Crucial Budget Votes Amidst Rising Educational Costs

Across the Finger Lakes, Tuesday's school budget votes hold critical decisions for local education's future, amidst rising financial pressures.

Staff Report / May 19 2025

Residents across the Finger Lakes region are preparing to cast their votes in critical school budget and board elections tomorrow, Tuesday, May 21st. The outcomes of these votes will significantly impact the future of local education, as districts grapple with rising operational costs and evolving student needs.

Tomorrow’s elections come at a time when school districts statewide are facing increased financial pressures. According to recent reports from the New York State Association of School Business Officials (NYSASBO), districts are contending with escalating costs related to special education services, transportation, and mandated programs. Inflationary pressures are also driving up expenses for supplies, utilities, and personnel.

Across the region, voting locations have been designated for each school district. In Bath, voters will cast their ballots at the district’s central office. In Campbell-Savona, the election will take place in the junior-senior high school gym lobby. Hammondsport residents can vote in their high school gym. Avoca voters will head to the school bus garage, while Prattsburgh will host voting in the school cafetorium from noon to 8 p.m.
